The Wind Measurement Lidar developed by LEICE is a reliable, accurate and cost-effective tool for wind profile measurements. The Lidar technology are widely accepted and applied in wind energy industry for resource assessment and power curve verification purposes. When used for aviation weather observation, the wind Lidar systems can detect low-level wind shear, turbulence intensity and aircraft wake vortex.

Wind Measurement Lidar - How Does It Work?
LiDAR is an acronym for Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) system. The Doppler Wind LiDAR systems are used to precisely measure wind fields information. It works by emitting laser beams from the optical window into the sky. These beams hit particles and aerosols in the air, a process that reflects the light. Winds are derived from direct measurements of Doppler shifts of backscattered laser light by molecules and atmospheric aerosols.
Very high spectral resolution and sensitive detection techniques are needed, because the shifts of backscattered light are small. The remote sensing Doppler Wind LiDAR is a extremely efficient tool for wind speed and wind direction measurement of high spatial and temporal accuracy.
