According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in February this year increased by 38.08 percent on tonnage basis compared to January, amounting to 47 ships compared to 26 ships recorded in January, totaling 1.98 million gross tons, consisting of one tanker and 46 bulk carriers. In February 2013, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 5 ships with 167,470 gross tons.

Meanwhile, in January-February period of the current year Japanese shipbuilders' order books for export totaled 73 ships, with a total tonnage of 3.41 million gross tons, increasing almost five-fold (up 390.02 percent) year on year.

On the other hand, in February this year Japan delivered 25 ships totaling 1.19 million gross tons for export, decreasing from 30 ships totaling 1.20 million gross tons recorded in January. In February 2013, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 22 ships with 1.13 million gross tons. Meanwhile in the first two months of this year, Japan delivered 55 ships for export, totaling 2.39 million gross tons, decreasing by 20.18 percent year on year.
