Mercedes-Benz Loses Second AMG Engineer to Rivals in a Month: Report

Mercedes-Benz has had its second top-ranked engineer leave its AMG performance arm for a rival German brand within a month.

UK publication Autocar reports AMG’s key chassis engineer, Arnd Meyer, has jumped ship from Mercedes-Benz to join Bavarian powerhouse BMW, specifically its M division.

According to the report, Meyer will be responsible for the development of chassis, powertrains, electrics and electronics in a move that comes less than three weeks after AMG’s former head of engines and powertrains, Friedrich “Fritz” Eichler, left Mercedes-Benz to work for fellow German manufacturer Volkswagen.

Both Meyer and Eichler are credited with individual successes on cars like the SLS AMG, and upcoming Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG and CLA45 AMG – the latter two due to reach Australian showrooms in August 2013 and sometime in 2014, respectively.
